5 Days in Morocco: The Best Morocco Itinerary

In the early morning, we depart from Fes heading southeast, traveling through the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco" due to its similarity to a Swiss ski resort. From there, we continue to the largest cedar forest in North Africa, home to the playful Barbary monkeys. Here, you'll have the opportunity to feed these fascinating creatures and capture memorable photos.

As we travel further south, you'll pass through Berber villages and countryside, where you might spot nomadic shepherds tending to their flocks. Midway through our journey, we will enjoy a delightful lunch in Midelt, a town known for its scenic beauty and cultural heritage.

After lunch, we resume our journey via the Tizi N'Talghamt pass and proceed toward the Ziz Gorge. Before reaching the Sahara Desert, we'll pause to admire panoramic views of the hidden oasis in the Ziz Valley, filled with palm trees and traditional mud villages.

In the late afternoon, you'll arrive at the edge of the Sahara, where you will spend your first night in the desert at a hotel or riad.

After breakfast at your accommodation in Merzouga, we begin our half-day excursion into the Sahara Desert. Your driver will take you to visit nomads living in traditional Berber tents in the desert. Observe their way of life and enjoy a cup of tea with them before we continue to explore old mines once exploited by the French (M'Fis mines).

Next, we head to Khamlia village, home to black Berber people with roots from Sudan and Mali. Here, you'll have the opportunity to listen to their soulful Gnaoua music and enjoy lunch in the town. Before riding camels, we will also visit an oasis on the edge of the Sahara. After a brief rest at your hotel or riad, gather your luggage for your night in the desert camp.

Then, start on an unforgettable camel trekking adventure over the high sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a lovely sunset from atop a high dune before returning to your desert camp, where you will spend your night. After a delicious dinner, relax under the stars with Berber music performed by local nomads, and if you're in the mood, dance to the traditional rhythms.

Before returning to the meeting point, begin your day early to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After this memorable moment, return to your desert camp for a shower and a delicious breakfast. Once you've had your breakfast, ride back on camels or either 4x4 car meeting your driver, we set off west via Rissani, a historic city that once served as a major stop for trade caravans. If your visit coincides with market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays), you'll have the chance to explore the region's largest souk.

Next, we travel through Erfoud, the town of fossils, passing by the small towns until we reach the fertile green valley of Todra, surrounded by old mud villages. Enjoy lunch in a village along the way. From the town of Tinghir, you will continue driving approximately 15 kilometers to the dramatic Todra Gorges, where vertical cliffs rise to 300 meters with natural springs adding to the scenery.

Later, travel through the Dades Valley, where you'll wonder at spectacular sandcastles and unique rock formations known locally as "monkey toes". Spend the night in a hotel or riad overlooking the breathtaking Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we depart for Ouarzazate, travelling through the Roses Valley, and Skoura along the way. Your day begins on a zigzagging road, famously featured in many car advertisements, passing the impressive Dades Gorges with its amazing rock formations.

Next, our journey continues to Kalaat M'Gouna (Roses Town), where locals harvest over 400 tons of rose petals, which are later processed into rosewater, creams, and perfumes in local cooperatives. A lively festival is held here every May.

After enjoying lunch in Roses Town or somewhere along this road, we travel along the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs to Skoura, home to some of Morocco's most beautiful kasbahs. In Skoura, we visit the 17th-century Kasbah of Amridil before driving through the oasis toward Ouarzazate. Upon arrival, you will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.

Today, we start our journey by exploring Ouarzazate, famously known as the "Hollywood of Africa". Visit the impressive cinema studios where famous films such as Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator were filmed. Ouarzazate is not only a cinematic hub but also home to Africa's largest solar power station and is famed for its exquisite handicrafts, including wooden gates, silverware, and rugs.

Next, we head to the most known Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has served as the backdrop for many international movies. Your journey continues as we cross the breathtaking Tizi N'Tichka pass, which rises to 2,260 meters along the High Atlas Mountains. Here, you'll admire the unique charm of traditional Berber villages nestled in the mountains.

By the end of the day, our driver will ensure to drop you off at your accommodation in Marrakech or a nearby parking. This marks the end of our services for the Morocco itinerary 5-day tour from Fes to Marrakech via the desert.
