8 Days Tour from Fes to Marrakech

On the first day of your 8-day Morocco itinerary, upon arrival at Fes, your driver/guide will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to visit Fes city and explore the historic old Medina. Spend the night at a local riad or hotel.

Today, you will go on a guided tour of Fes, the first imperial city founded by Idriss I in the 12th century and later the capital during the Almohad era. Highlights include Al-Qarawiyyin University (the world's oldest established university), Bou Inania Madrasa, the Jewish District (Millah), plazas, traditional neighborhoods such as Andaulisians and potters, museums, souks, and Bab Boujloud. Fes is known as the artisan capital of Morocco. Overnight stay in Fes at a hotel or riad.

After breakfast, depart Fes and travel toward Merzouga. Today's route takes you through the picturesque city of Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco", followed by a crossing of the Cedar Forest, the largest woodland in Morocco. As you travel the Mid-Atlas Mountains, you will pass through Errachidia and its Berber villages.

The landscape begins to transform in the Ziz Valley, where the first expansive palm groves signal the approach of the Sahara. Continuing through the oasis of Ziz, you will reach Erfoud, noted for its fossil production, before arriving in the village of Merzouga. Overnight stay at a hotel or riad.

Begin your day with breakfast at your accommodation in Merzouga, then start to explore the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi and the surrounding villages. Your tour starts with a visit to local nomads living in traditional Berber tents in the heart of the Sahara, where you can observe their lifestyle and enjoy a cup of tea.

Next, visit historic mines once exploited by the French, followed by a stop at the small village of Khamilia, home to the Gnaoua people, where you can enjoy traditional Gnaoua music during lunch. Afterward, return to Merzouga and go on a camel trek across the high dunes of Erg Chebbi to witness a breathtaking sunset from atop a dune. Conclude your day at a desert camp, where you will enjoy a delicious dinner and the sounds of Berber music performed by local nomads under a starlit sky, with the opportunity to join in dancing if you wish.

Today, we'll depart from Merzouga toward Rissani, a historic trading hub where caravans once met. Next, we visit Tinghir town to admire its amazing oases before continuing to the Todra Gorges, the highest and narrowest in Morocco; where you can enjoy a scenic walk along the Todra River. After exploring the gorges, we head to Ouarzazate, famously known as the "Hollywood of Africa" for its connection to films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and The Mummy, and visit the magnificent Kasbah of Taourirt. Overnight stay in Ouarzazate at a hotel or riad.

After breakfast, depart from Ouarzazate toward Marrakech. Today's itinerary includes a visit to the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, followed by a break for lunch in the village. Then, we continue our journey through Tizi N'Tichka, Morocco's highest mountain pass at 2260 meters above sea level, arriving in Marrakech around 6 PM. Overnight stay in Marrakech at a riad or hotel.

Today, after enjoying breakfast, our local guide will meet you at your accommodation in Marrakech. He will accompany you as you explore the famous city, known as the "Red City of Morocco". This city has served as an important stop for traders and travelers for many centuries and is considered the "southern pearl" of Morocco, as well as the "second oldest imperial city".

Our itinerary includes visiting the most significant historical and cultural sites, including the Saadian Tombs, the stunning Palaces of El Bahia and El Badi, the Ben Youssef Quranic School (Ben Youssef Madrasa), and the historic Koutoubia Mosque, which features a 77-meter-high minaret that dominates the center of Marrakech. As well as the Menara Gardens and Jardin Majorelle, which require a booking in advance via the official website (it's better to book the tickets one to two days before the visit date).

Next, you can head to Jamaa El-Fna, one of the city's main attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This famous square is a central cultural hub in Marrakech. You can relax at various cafés surrounding the square and enjoy the lively atmosphere, which is filled with magicians, storytellers, snake charmers, and street food vendors. Then continue to discover the colorful and diverse souks. We will spend the night in Marrakech.
