What is the difference between the categories of accommodations?

This is the difference between the 4 categories of accommodations:

  1. Budget accommodations are typically 1- and 2-star hotels, offering a simple, clean place to stay with small rooms containing essential amenities like a bed, fresh linens, a bathroom, and basic furniture such as a table and a clothes rack. (Not recommended by Days In Morocco Company).
  2. Standard accommodations fall between 2 and 3 stars, often found in older city areas or rural settings like Kasbahs, guesthouses, or Riads. Despite being economical, they provide decent comfort, usually featuring private bathrooms, a restaurant, and sometimes a swimming pool.

Day 1: Marrakech - Tizi N'Tichka - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

Today, we will depart from Marrakech around 08:00 AM and drive towards the High Atlas Mountains. The winding road offers a very impressive and wonderful trip through verdant valleys and Berber villages, leading us to the highest pass in Morocco, Tizi N'Tichka, which stands at an altitude of 2,260 meters. We will stop for a coffee or mint tea and to take some photos along the way.

In the afternoon, we will visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, known for being a popular filming location for international directors and moviemakers. This kasbah was a significant fortress and stronghold on the old Salt Road, where caravans brought gold, slaves, ivory, and salt to trade from distant lands to Moroccan cities.

Our 3 days tour from Marrakech to Fes continues to Ouarzazate city, which is home to several film studios and is often referred to as the "Hollywood of Africa." As we travel southeast towards the road of One Thousand Kasbahs, the landscape changes through various Berber villages and towns on our way to the Dades Valley where we will spend our night.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga Desert

Today morning, after breakfast, we will leave the Dades Valley and continue our 3 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes. Our journey takes us along the road to the Todra Gorge, known as the favorite canyon for international rock climbers due to its impressive landscape. After a lunch break, we will head south towards the Sahara.

On the way, you'll see a lot of attractions, including beautiful oases, palm groves, stunning landscapes, ancient ruins, adobe kasbahs, and even traces of dinosaur fossils. Erfoud, known as the "city of fossils", was once part of an ocean, and many fossils and minerals can be found in the area. These are often transformed into beautiful furniture and decorative pieces.

Our day will end at the sea of sand in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterward, you will join the experience of camel trekking over the high dunes of the Erg Chebbi desert. Your local guides will teach you how to mount and dismount the camels and other handy camel-related safety tips. You'll enjoy the beautiful view of the sunset from atop a high dune before riding the camels to your desert camp, where you will spend the night.

After a delicious dinner, time to listen to traditional Berber music played by local nomads under the stars in the serene evening atmosphere. If you love dancing, feel free to join in and dance to the rhythms of the music. You'll be amazed by the starlit sky above you, then, before you go to your tent.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Ceder Forest - Ifrane - Fes

Today, you will wake up early to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over the Erg Chebbi's highest dunes in Merzouga, where the stunning dunes create one of the desert's most memorable moments. After taking in the view, you'll have breakfast at the camp. Once you finish packing, you can choose to return either by camel or in a 4x4 vehicle, leaving the dunes behind as you begin your journey to Fes.

We will leave the immense desert and travel toward the city of Rissani, which was once a major stopping point along the Saharan caravan route. If our visit coincides with one of the local markets that take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, we will have the opportunity to visit the souk, the largest in the region.

Next, we will continue our journey north through the Tafilalet palm grove, the largest palm grove in the world. Along the 20 km stretch of road, you will see thousands of palm trees. This route leads us to the Ziz Valley, where a river from the High Atlas Mountains flows down to nourish the palm grove. We will stop at a high viewpoint to enjoy a magnificent view of the valley and the town of Aoufous.

As we travel through the magnificent Ziz Valley, keep an eye out for Jbel Ayachi, which rises to 3,757 meters while Midelt sits at an altitude of 1,488 meters. Our next stop will be in Midelt, a town renowned for its minerals and apples, located in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, where you will have some free time for lunch and a chance to rest. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey through the Cedar Woods, where, if we are lucky, we can spot some monkeys.

The next destination is the city of Ifrane, situated on the northwestern slope of the Middle Atlas at an altitude of 1,630 meters above sea level. With its broad avenues, meticulously planned urban development, beautiful gardens, and green spaces, as well as its unique architecture, Ifrane resembles a Swiss town. Ifrane feels misplaced in Morocco. That's why it's named "Moroccan Switzerland", and if that's not enough it has an important ski resort, Michlifen. Arrive in Fez around 6 PM.
